Has anyone got a foot tattoo and it has been sore, infected, or cut etc but healed after?

I'm getting my first tattoo on my foot next week and wanted to do my research. I keep reading that it's prone to infection and can come off etc.. Is this true? I'm lucky enough to be at home looking after my kids so I can walk around bare foot and use flip flops etc so hopefully this will speed up healing-just need some advice from people that have had it done and how to manage your tattoo-thanks!
