Can i claim my son on my w-4 even if i don't claim him at the end of the year?

I have 50/50 custody of my son. In the court papers, I claim my son years ending in odd numbers. (2009) (2011) etc. My question is can i claim my son as a dependent on my w-4 on the years i don't get to claim him at the end of the year?
