Should I ask this girl out?

So I'm a sophomore in high school and I really like this senior girl. We've met each other but we aren't necessarily good friends (mostly due to not having any classes together, etc). One similarity we do share is an Art 1 class (same course, different period). This class has a project that says we need to go to a museum and then write a paper on our experience. I really want to ask her if she wants to meet up to do the project but I'm kinda fearing the awkwardness or the rejection. Any tips on how I can go about this?
