What field is for robotics?

ive always been fascinated about robotics and building your own robotic at home. Like grabbing wooden box and putting chips and circuits in it to make it move like remote control. What degree is good for that? Something i can for fun or for a career. Like the first tomb raider movie the scientist with all the toy robots he made and the giant move he made. I want to do that.
